Honoring an advocate

(February 10, 2019) – At the Maternal Mental Health Now 2019 gala, Dignity Health’s director of Community Health at California Hospital Medical Center, Margaret Lynn Yonekura, MD, was honored for her leadership and dedication to improving maternal and infant well-being associated with postpartum depression and other perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. 

The goal of the gala is to honor and celebrate local women who have been affected by postpartum depression and the friends, family, and providers who have supported and advocated for them.  

Dr. Yonekura is a recognized expert in the fields of infectious diseases in OB/GYN and perinatal substance abuse. Since 1992 she has been based at California Hospital Medical Center, serving Central and South Central Los Angeles, where she has been director of community benefit since 2000 and associate professor of clinical OB/GYN at both USC and UCLA Schools of Medicine. Throughout her career Dr. Yonekura has established comprehensive care programs to address her patients’ complex needs.

Dignity Health’s vision is to be a national model of excellence that actively promotes maternal and infant well-being and reduces the burden of illness that is associated with untreated postpartum depression or other perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.

Dignity Health is actively partnering with Maternal Mental Health Now and other agencies on multiple local collaborative projects to bridge inpatient and outpatient systems of care which successfully provide women access to needed services. 

Maternal Mental Health Now is the leading organization in LA County offering training, technical assistance, and consultation to health care and community-based organizations on the screening and treatment of postpartum depression and other maternal mental health disorders.
