Sisters of St. Francis

Support the Sisters of St. Francis fund today.

Founded by Mother Magdalen Damen in the Netherlands, the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity have served the voiceless and vulnerable since 1835. The West Coast province was established in 1939 to help faith formation, education and literacy, health care, spiritual direction and retreat, elder care, job development, and much more.

Dignity Health Foundation is partnering with the Sisters of St. Francis to ensure their exceptional work continues for future generations. The program will provide charitable support in the following three areas:

Partnership Fund

In order to continue the tradition of empowering those who are vulnerable and in need, the fund promotes and supports women, children, the elderly, peace, justice, hunger, homelessness, education, and health care.

Grace Day Home Fund

Inspired by the Sisters’ legacy in Sacramento, Grace Day Home was the first licensed day care center in California. The fund provides support to improve the quality of life for vulnerable women and children, which embodies the Sisters’ spirit of dignity and respect for all.

Sister Karen Boccalero Arts Fund

Inspired by Sister Karen Boccalero whose work with artists inspired her ministry, she believed art had the power to provide hope. The fund supports arts education, showcases and invests in artist from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds, provides art scholarships, and offers hands-on opportunities for artists to develop their skills.
